A Few Aspects Of Dental Implants

People spend a lot of money on their teeth to make them look white and straight. There is a good reason that people spend so much money on their teeth, it is one of the first things that a person is going to notice about you. You know that it is one of the first things that you notice about others. In order to put off a good first impression, it is important to have a nice smile. One procedure that is becoming much more common are dental implants. There is a good reason that these are becoming more familiar. This article is going to outline what dental implants are and what they are used for.

What Is A Dental Implant

You may be asking what a dental implant is, and that is a very good question. There are many different terms that can be used in dentistry that are confusing. A dental implant is where metal posts or frames are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. This is important because it means that your tooth is solid and that it will not move at all. The dentist will often make a mold of the tooth that the implant is replacing.

Dentures

One of the main reasons that some people get dental implants is to actually anchor down their dentures. Getting your entire mouth filled with dental implants can be very expensive. However, you may be able to afford a few dental implants. Since the dental implant goes straight into the jawbone, they can effectively anchor your entire denture into your mouth. Usually if you are going to use dental implants as a means to anchor your dentures, you will have four dental implants installed. You will have two on the top and two on the bottom, and these dental implants will do wonders to keep your dentures in place.

A Few Teeth

You may have been in an accident and had one or a few of your teeth knocked out. The dentist will make a mold of the gap that is in your teeth, or if the tooth is available they can make a mold of the tooth. The dental implant will then go in place of your regular tooth. The material that these teeth are made out of is usually porcelain, and is extremely durable. Just make sure to maintain good dental hygiene as your dental implants can get discolored.
